Motionprint Ergo is designed with data privacy as a core principle. All motion capture data is processed and stored entirely on your local machine — no recordings, session files, or reports are ever uploaded to external servers. This article explains exactly how your data is handled, where files are saved, and what the one narrow exception to local-only operation is.

Stays on your machine
  • Motion capture recordings
  • Session files and intermediate data
  • Generated PDF and Excel reports
  • Assessment results and scores
  • Private encryption keys
Sent externally (licence only)
  • Licence key (for validation)
  • Machine fingerprint (for seat tracking)
  • Device name (your computer's hostname)
  • No motion data — ever
  • No reports or file contents
  • Encrypted over HTTPS

1 Motion Data Handling

Every step of the Motionprint Ergo processing pipeline — from motion capture import through joint angle calculation, posture classification, and risk scoring — runs entirely on the user's local machine. No cloud processing occurs at any point.

Local-only processing

When you import a motion capture file, the data is read from your local filesystem and passed directly to the processing pipeline running on your machine. The output — assessment scores, time-series graphs, and report files — is saved locally on your device. The application does not make any outbound network requests during this process.

What is never transmitted

  • Motion capture recordings — your recording files and their contents remain on your device at all times
  • Session files — intermediate processing data, joint angle arrays, and posture classifications are stored locally and never shared
  • Assessment reports — generated PDF and Excel files are saved to your local output directory and are not uploaded anywhere
  • Worker or subject data — any personal or identifying information associated with a recording stays on your machine
No cloud dependency

Motionprint Ergo does not require a cloud connection to process data or generate reports. Once activated, the application works fully offline for up to 30 days without contacting any external server.

2 Local Storage

All reports and exports are generated locally on your machine and saved to a folder of your choosing. Nothing is uploaded or synced to any external location.

Output formats

  • PDF reports — formatted assessment reports including risk scores, charts, and recommendations, generated entirely on-device
  • Excel exports (.xlsx) — detailed data exports with full multiplier breakdowns and per-moment data, generated entirely on-device

Choosing where to save

When you export a report, Motionprint Ergo opens a file picker so you can choose exactly where to save it. The application remembers the last folder you used for each report type and export format, so you don't have to navigate there each time. You can save reports to any folder you have write access to on your machine.

You stay in control

Reports are saved exactly where you choose. There is no automatic sync, background upload, or cloud storage of any kind — the file lands on your machine and stays there.

3 External Transmission

The only time Motionprint Ergo communicates with an external server is during licence validation. This is the single narrow exception to the local-only principle, and it is limited strictly to the information required to verify your licence.

What is transmitted

  • Licence key — your MP-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX key, sent to the Motionprint Licence Server to verify it is valid and active
  • Machine fingerprint — a unique identifier derived from hardware characteristics of your device, used to track seat activation and prevent licence sharing
  • Device name — your computer's hostname (e.g. "DESKTOP-WORKSTATION"), used for device identification in the licence management dashboard

No file contents, motion data, report data, or assessment results are included in licence validation requests. The request contains only the fields above.

When validation occurs

  • On first activation of the licence
  • Periodically in the background when the application is running and an internet connection is available (to renew the offline grace period)
  • On explicit re-validation after the offline grace period has elapsed
Firewall note

If your organisation's firewall blocks outbound HTTPS traffic, licence validation will fail. The application requires access to the Motionprint Licence Server on port 443. All other application functionality is fully local and unaffected by firewall restrictions.

4 Security

Motionprint Ergo protects sensitive data both on your device and in transit to the licence server.

Local data encryption
Sensitive data stored locally — such as licence tokens — is encrypted using industry-standard encryption tied to your device's hardware identity. This means the data cannot be read if copied to another machine.
Transit security
All communication with the Licence Server is made over HTTPS. Your licence key, machine fingerprint, and device name are transmitted securely and cannot be read in transit.
No telemetry
Motionprint Ergo does not collect usage analytics, crash reports, or diagnostic telemetry. No application behaviour data is ever transmitted externally.
Summary

Your motion capture recordings, session files, and reports never leave your machine. The only external communication is a small, encrypted licence validation request — containing no motion data, no file contents, and no assessment results.

5 GDPR & Data Protection

Motionprint Ergo is built around a simple principle: your motion data never leaves your machine. No movement recordings, assessment results, or report files are processed anywhere other than your local device, which means the most sensitive data your organisation handles is never exposed to external systems.

What the licence server stores

The Motionprint Licence Server stores the minimum data required to manage your licence. This includes the name and email address associated with your licence, your organisation name if applicable, and the hardware identifiers used to track which devices are activated. IP addresses are retained in server audit logs for security purposes.

No motion capture data, assessment results, or report content is ever stored server-side.

EU data residency

The Motionprint Licence Server is hosted on Hetzner infrastructure in Helsinki, Finland. All licence data is stored and processed within the European Union and does not leave EU jurisdiction.

Data residency

Licence data is stored on EU-based infrastructure (Hetzner, Helsinki, Finland) and does not leave the European Union.

Your rights & data requests

You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal data held in connection with your licence. As Motionprint continues to develop its data handling infrastructure, deletion requests are currently handled manually by the support team. To submit a request, contact us via the support page.

Motionprint is committed to GDPR compliance and is actively working to add automated data management capabilities, including self-service data export and deletion, in future releases.
